Christians all around the world observe Good Friday with respect and humility. Good Friday also was known as Black Friday or Holy Friday is the day in Holy Week before Easter, it commemorates Jesus act of sacrifice for mankind’s sins. This day is observed differently according to Christian traditions throughout the world. Christians fast and mourn on this day, processions are held in streets, churches do a three-hour sermon and one important tradition is the exchange of Good Friday messages.
Jesus was crucified on this day after being betrayed by Judas and High Priest who was already looking for a way to get rid of Christ, found a way to falsely accuse Him of claiming to be King of Jews. Jesus was then beaten and nailed to a cross, where He was left to die, and on that cross, Jesus sacrificed His life for mankind’s sins
Some Christians celebrate it rather than being mournful as this terrible day led to Jesus resurrection 3 days ahead of Easter after he died for mankind’s sins, while others say The name ‘Good Friday’ was given by Roman Church in 6th-7th century, before that it was called ‘Holy’ or ‘Great’ Friday. The ‘Good’ in Good Friday comes from old English when Good meant Holy.

2017 Good Friday Poems for friends
“THE DAY BETWEEN GOOD FRIDAY AND EASTER 1989
I wrote about rain
In Tacoma early on
Sitting in a kitchen
Watching the street below.
Yet today I’m very far South
And it’s a different rain
This one is filled with many thoughts
Made of many types.
Drizzling and misting
Hard and straight
Only one sunny break
Easter prelude weather.
Easter on the Cape Flats
On Good Friday after church we eat
curried pickled fish and hot crossed buns
and drink black coffee because we share
in the painful agony of the Lord.
On Easter Sunday after church we braai *
meat and drink like fish and rejoice
in the victory over death and grave.”
“We all call it Good Friday
It was really good for the sinner
Death won round one
But on Sunday, we crown the winner”
Lord perished in the
Cross to redeem humanity
Washing with his blood the sins committed by nescience
Proferring eternal life to whoever believe in him as personal savior”
“He born in a hamlet
He became favorite
He healed leper(s)
He is said helper
He shed blood
For the sinfully dead
When they saw HE star they celebrated CHRISTMAS
When HE was crucified we commemorated GOOD FRIDAY
When they saw empty tomb the world celebrate EASTER”
Good, better, best
in that order i guess
but what made this day good?
just the death of a man that could
make the rest of the world in peace
the Romans the world and the deceased
they frowned on his actions
now we worship his fraction
but the battles still wage
on this Friday- today
for today is good Friday”
God’s Son came to earth’s abode
On Calvary He shed His blood.
Once the Sacrifice was complete
Death He’d have to defeat.
For man His life He gave.
Resolved that sinners He’d save.
Ideally was God’s plan displayed,
Dutifully the Son obeyed.
Anguish and pain He would endure
Yet victory He’d lovingly procure.”
